Organic vs Conventional 30-Year Farming study

10th October 2012 |

The facts are in! The Rodale Institute in the US recently published the results of a 30-year study on conventional farming vs organic. The results are very interesting for farmers and landowners so please have a look at the attached report with an open mind. Given that organic farming produces the same yield over time (and better in times of drought) and has considerably less input costs, a sensible long-term fiscal strategy would be conversion to organic husbandry.

  • organic farming systems build rather than deplete soil organic matter, making it a more sustainable system.
  • organic farming uses 45% less energy and is more efficient.
  • conventional systems produce 40% more greenhouse gases.
